The Grassroots Innovation & Augmentation Network Cell (GIAN-CELL) was established in the year 2004. It is a unique centre for Documentation, Evaluation & incubation of Grassroots Innovation South India & particularly in Karnataka established in the association with "The National Innovation Foundation (NIF)", an organ of Department of Science & Technology, GOI.

         The Aim of this cell is to act as a nodal centre to upgrade, design & development & commercialize the Grassroots innovation in Karnataka.

Objectives:

• Rural Industrial development through incubation of local innovation.
• IPR Management & providing local R & D support.
• Value addition to local innovation using existing facilities at Technical Institutions.
• Setting up local incubation centre through participation of students.

Activities:

• Documentation & evaluation of grassroots innovation scouted bu NIF.
• Assists the innovation for up-gradation of thier innovations.
• Process development for commercialization of the innovations.
• RE-design & development of the innovations through student projects (Technology Incubation)
• Carrying out business plan for the innovations
• Assisting for the innovations
• Incubating of the feasible and viable innovations (Technology Business Incubation)

Achivements:

• Two Projects were developed by GIAN-CELL.
• 15 Projects on hand.
• Two Projects got National Recognition.
• 10 Projects were documented.
